Theory of 5
This is a well known concept when it comes to super hero teams in the Anime/ Kung-fu movie genre. You know like your Pokemon's or your five dragon movies. However, I have taken out the five basic character types and believe we can apply them to any social gathering and i believe it is the person who has all of them within themselves that is the individual Superhero, and is ready for independent or team based living. The five character types and their description are as follows;
Leader: This person takes charge sorts out issues and does what he/she can do to lead.
Protector: This person watches out for everyone and does their best to take care of the needs of others. At odds with the dark one who does not need their help.
Dark One: This person is mysterious and at times a rebel usually at odds with the protector, but tends to be the one sought out for their wisdom by the leader.
Kid: The reckless one the one who gets the rest of the team in trouble. Best friend to the protector, and most annoying to the dark one because of his childish behavior.
The Princess: This person craves attention and loves romantic or dramatic overtones. Can be a tough and resourceful ally, and usually the love interest of the leader.
Now look around at your group of friends. I guarantee that if there are five, that one of two things happens. All of you automatically shift and stay in those roles, or you slip effortlessly between roles when you need to be one of them. The later is an example of a team of Individual Superheroes who work well together in a team situation. The former is a group of maturing superheroes who may need more time n the training room.
This theory can be applied to all situation whether it is one person or 100's of people. If it is one person and they are happy then they are a fully realized individual superhero maintaining a balance between all 5. If not then they need something or someone or many someones to fill the gaps in their team. I will use a couple I know as an example. Together they are one team, but separated she is fully functioning where as he still needs her flexibility of role to be complete. She fulfills his needs of leader and protector that he is missing. Allowing him to fluctuate between kid, dark one, and princess. The ultimate goal of this and any relationship is that both are complete superheroes and allow for fluidity within the relationship so that any given time each member can fulfill the needs of another.
Now take for example The United states of America currently with the economic crisis our nation as a whole is functioning as a princess and a kid. Leaving our government to focus on three roles protector, leader, and the dark one.
The ultimate goal of this theory is that everyone is working to be complete superheroes and therefore all parties that come in contact with one another move fluidly amongst all the roles. Allowing for each others needs to be met.
Please feel free to ask more about this theory as i know that the superhero idea is sometimes hard to grasp without the background comic book concept knowledge. I also challenge you to look at yourself and think...Am I a complete Superhero? If not roles do i fulfill in my relationships, and how can I work to better myself and become complete?
